If only more people used their wealth to improve the environment and lives of those less fortunate. If only we could trust governments to tax them and then use the monies collected to do more than line the pockets of corrupt politicians. Imagine a government that was accountable and used money to improve infrastructure for the people, education for the people and fixing environmental issues. Imagine a government that wasn’t corrupt. Seems impossible. Maybe these ultra wealthy people just need to take action and work to help communities and people independent of the government.
Really powerful approach to tie art and conservation together. The stat about lion populations dropping 50% since Lion King came out really contextualizes how quickly things have shifted. I've always found it facinating how auction houses can catalyze these kinds of impact initiatives now, not just move objects between collectors. The full proceeds structure here sets a pretty intresting precedent.
